Instead of focusing on what “more” government can do to create jobs – I will focus on what they can do LESS of.
1. LESS TIME.
2. LESS BUREAUCRACY.
3. LESS MONEY.
LESS TIME. My first order of business will be to introduce a program called “jump start 30”. The goal is simple – every qualified person or business who wants to create a job in Collier County and needs the government to give them permission to do something – will get a final answer in 30 days. It’s that simple.
LESS BUREAUCRACY. Next, I will ask for a jobs audit. Any department in Collier County Government that directly or indirectly deals with citizens trying to create jobs or keep jobs here will be reviewed. In addition, I will ask for a system that allows each department to be graded and reviewed by private sector job creators. We will publish those grades every quarter.
LESS MONEY. Finally, I will introduce legislation that puts a moratorium on impact fees for new and existing businesses until the unemployment rate is back down to the National average. Right now we are hovering around ten percent – that means one in ten people living in Collier County are out of a job. We know that the folks without a job are doing without – well — so can Government.
Everything we care about in Collier County: Good schools, good roads and a safe environment to retire or raise a family –depends on a strong and vibrant economy. That’s why this issue will be job number one for me.
