Naples Daily News endorses Bill McDaniel

Endorsement editorial: Collier County Commission, 3 seats

Published in the July 29 issue.

In District 3 (Golden Gate/East Naples) there is a difference. Challenger Bill McDaniel goes right to what’s important — making government more efficient and user- and business-friendly. He speaks from experience in building, real estate, rock-sand mining and county advisory boards.

He connects with the people he seeks to serve. We believe he can be a leader — someone who can get things done.

The incumbent tends to drift, following the political wind of the day.

McDaniel has worked hard to get this job. After a shaky start he has honed his message into one of confidence, leadership and approachability.

The incumbent has disappointed too often. His blockage of follow-through on the Immokalee Master Plan and his flawed, incomplete filings of state-mandated financial disclosure reports are the latest examples of official conduct that has served to erode the public trust.

Because McDaniel and Henning are Republicans and there are no other candidates, all 31,300 voters in District 3 can weigh in.

We like what McDaniel says about leadership: “It’s about doing the right thing by the community all the time.”

McDaniel offers District 3 an opportunity to do better for itself.
